Film Characteristics
Best for People: It renders small facial details and subtle skin tones well without grain becoming overly prominent. Street: Its ISO 400 speed makes it easier to capture moving people and spontaneous urban moments. The outlines of buildings, signs and other small details also remain clearly defined. Landscape: Its high level of detail preserves fine textures in foliage, rocks and distant buildings. Rich tonal transitions can appear between bright and shaded areas.
Look & feel Natural: Balanced shades of grey and well-defined edges give a clean black-and-white appearance. Subtle differences in midtones remain visible alongside darker areas.
Lighting Mixed light: It works well in sunny and overcast weather and in shaded settings. It tolerates small exposure variations reasonably well, making it useful when conditions change quickly. Indoors: Handheld photographs are possible with sufficient window light or artificial illumination, especially with a fast lens. In dim light, slower shutter speeds or additional lighting may still be needed.
Grain Fine: Its grain is exceptionally small and even for an ISO 400 black-and-white film and remains restrained in larger enlargements. It is slightly more visible than in EKTAPAN 100, but less pronounced than in most traditionally grained films.
Contrast Normal: It can produce deep blacks and clearly separated highlights while retaining a rich range of midtones. The overall appearance may be slightly bolder than the ISO 100 version.
