Fujifilm Velvia 100

Fujifilm Velvia 100 is a professional ISO 100 daylight-balanced color reversal slide film processed in E-6. Exceptionally high color saturation, strong contrast and remarkably fine grain produce striking, detailed photographs. It is especially suited to landscape and nature photography, where vivid colors and distinct tonal separation emphasize shapes and textures. Favorable long-exposure characteristics also make it suitable for tripod-based night photography.

Film Characteristics

Best for:
Landscape: Exceptionally vivid colors and high resolving power render foliage, mountain scenery and fine details in nature with striking clarity. Pronounced tonal separation adds depth, but scenes with a wide brightness range require accurate exposure.
Night: Its favorable reciprocity characteristics permit tripod exposures of up to 60 seconds without additional exposure compensation. It is particularly well suited to long-exposure landscapes and night scenes where intense colors and bold tones can be put to good use.

Look & feel:
Punchy: Extremely saturated colors, deep shadows and pronounced light-dark differences give photographs a dramatic, expressive appearance. Natural colors often appear more intense than perceived in reality, particularly greens, reds and blues.

Lighting:
Bright daylight: Its ISO 100 sensitivity suits sunlit outdoor scenes, where vivid color and excellent detail can be used to full effect. In high-contrast situations, careful metering is important to preserve highlights and shadows.
Mixed light: It also works very well in overcast weather and softer, diffused daylight. Gentler lighting can reduce extreme tonal differences, while light sources with varying color temperatures may call for filtration.
Low light & night: With a tripod, exposure times up to one minute require no reciprocity correction. Longer exposures may need exposure and color-balance corrections, especially under artificial lighting. ISO 100 limits handheld photography in dim light.

Color balance:
Daylight: Its daylight-balanced emulsion produces its characteristic vivid color palette in natural light and with appropriate electronic flash. Artificial light sources may require color-temperature correction.

Grain:
Fine: Fujifilm’s stated diffuse RMS granularity of 8 indicates an exceptionally fine grain structure. Clean detail and high resolving power are especially valuable for intricate natural subjects and high-resolution scanning.

Contrast:
High: Pronounced tonal separation produces deep shadows and prominent highlights. Stronger contrast than Provia 100F creates a more dramatic appearance, while the limited exposure latitude of slide film makes it easier to lose highlight and shadow detail.

Saturation:
High: Exceptionally intense color reproduction is one of the film’s defining characteristics. Green foliage, reddish sunsets and deep blue skies can look particularly saturated, creating a striking overall effect that deliberately departs from natural color proportions.
